Opportunity:
To develop a future product line for Allure Energy's CEO Kevin Imes with a focus on home audio. The experience and products should make it easy to stream music though out the home.
Background:
In a new emerging market of wireless music streaming and the ability of the EverSense to occupy within this market space, the CEO of Kevin Imes envisioned products that could work along with the EverSense. The goal of this engagement is to provide insights to the future of home automation, while providing some suggestions for initial areas of focus.
Approach:
As the researcher and industrial designer for this project, I worked with the team to understand home audio and home automation. The focus was to also better understand: client objectives, competitive landscape, and target audience's needs, motivations, and behaviors. Ideation, concept development, and also prototype creation were also deliverables.
In order to deeply study audience's needs, we started the research with surveys, 1:1 interview sessions with consumers to identify common themes, with a focus on current products they use.
Key Learning:
This design project showcased the importance of choosing the right forms of research to identify key insights to develop a new product line.
Our client was looking for concepts to shed some light on potential products for home audio. Through our research, we discovered were gaps in home audio could be bridged. The biggest challenge that existed was the lack of current products from our client to design off of. This process allowed us to use our imagination and develop innovations that we now see in the market place.
