Opportunity:
To develop a device to allow users to connect with their house plants and to help them stay alive.
Background:
This idea came from my girlfriends inability to keep the house plants in our apartment alive. This was a stark contrast in my moms ability to nurture her house plants and relative ease at which she did this. Upon further investigation and research, I discovered that millions of plants are thrown away each year. Some of which that could be saved. The goal of this project is to provide actionable insights on how to allow house plant owners to stay connected with their plants, while providing a way to enhance human plant interactions.
Approach:
I worked and researched as much as could to better understand PPI (People Plant Interaction). The focus was how plants impact the way we live other than providing just a food source. My objectives were concept products, similar products in the landscape, and target audience's needs, motivations, and behaviors.
Key Learning:
This project showcased the importance designing for a problem and the impact it could when reframing and focusing on the end user. Without my initial investigation into PPI I don't believe the empathy in the design of this product would present itself.
